Current Research

Since completing his PhD supported by a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship, he continues a research interest focusing upon lung health in children. His main interest focusses upon lung infection in children, and lung infection associated with cystic fibrosis. This includes laboratory studies investigating ways in which these difficult infections may be overcome. This work has relevance not only to those with CF, but also others who have infections with antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Dr Hurley has undertaken systematic reviews with the Cochrane Collaboration and so is interested in examining the publication of clinical studies and use of evidence of clinical trials. He is also interested in the dissemination of clinical trial results to wider audiences and public engagement in science. He is Project Lead and Editor for CFUnite - a public engagement with science initiative aimed at bridging the gap between researchers and people with CF and their families. He also sat on the Steering Group for the Cystic Fibrosis Priority Setting Parnership
