Biography

Dr Gay is an experienced senior clinician and medical educator.

A graduate of St. George's Hospital Medical School, University of London, he is a GP of more than 25 years experience, a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Prior to moving to Nottingham, Dr Gay held various roles at the University of Keele School of Medicine including Co-lead for Ethics, Personal and Professional Development, Co-lead of Final Year MB ChB, Deputy Director of Education in General Practice and Director of MB ChB Curriculum.

His other current roles include:

  • GMC Education Associate
  • National Committee Member - Elected member of ASME Educator Development Committee, August 2013 to present day (Re-elected for a second term March 2016)
  • Founder member of the International Clinical Skills Foundation Board
  • Founder member of UK Clinical Reasoning in Medical Education Group

My research interests include clinical reasoning (which formed the subject of my MA Med Ed dissertation), skills development and professionalism.

Dr Gay co-designed, piloted and led Keele's clinical reasoning course for fourth year medical students and has previously facilitated many clinical reasoning and other educational workshops in the UK and internationally.

Dr Gay leads two modules on Keele's MA in medical Education: "Curriculum Design" and "Professionalism". He also supervises several Masters students on Nottingham's MMed ci in Medical Education.
