Biography

Clinical Associate Professor in Stroke Medicine & Honorary Consultant Stroke Physician (Royal Derby Hospital)

My undergraduate medical years were at the University of Leicester (1996 - 2001) and I trained in Health Care for the Elderly and General Internal Medicine (Nottingham University Hospitals, CCT 2011) during which time I obtained a PhD in Stroke Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

Expertise Summary

My research interests include the effects of ischaemic conditioning in stroke; the role of cannabinoids in the vasculature and blood brain barrier; colony stimulating factors and haematopoietic stem cells in enhancing stroke recovery; and blood pressure and stroke.

I am the Chief Investigator of the BMA funded ReCAST (Remote Iscahemic Conditioning After Stroke Trial) and sit on the Trial Steering Committees for TICH-2 (Tranexamic acid in Intracerebral Haemorrhagic) and RIGHT-2 (Rapid Intervention with Glyceryl trinitrate in Hypertensive stroke Trial-2). I also sit on the Trial Management Group for BEADS (BEhavioural Activation therapy for Depression after Stroke).

Research Summary

My research interests include:

  • dizziness
