The University of Nottingham Division of Midwifery is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The primary aim of the Division is to contribute to improvement in health care and services provided for women of childbearing age and their families. This is achieved through collaboration in education, midwifery practice development and research locally, nationally and internationally. Being part of a multi-professional Faculty facilitates interprofessional working between academic midwives and obstetricians as well as enabling shared learning with all other professional groups through the Centre of Interprofessional Education and Learning.
The Division delivers the pre-registration and learning beyond registration contracts in Trent. Midwifery staff are based in one of five main education centres (Boston, Derby, Lincoln, Mansfield, Nottingham) shared with nursing, which service a geographical area of over 3,000 urban and rural square miles. Since September 2005 students have also been based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
In the 2007/2008 NMC UK-Wide QA Framework, nursing and midwifery were awarded Good or Outstanding for all standards monitored.
University education departments embedded in NHS premises provide a real strength in enhancing partnership working and facilitating face-to-face communications. Further details of all our key activities are provided on this website and we welcome feedback about the usefulness of this site.
