Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) (Pre-registration shortened programme)

This 80 week programme aims to enable applicants with a Registered Nurse (Adult) qualification to become competent practising midwives.

Following a period of induction/orientation to midwifery theory and practice, students will share learning with students undertaking the three year programme level 2 and level 3 modules.

Admission Requirements

  1. Current registration on the NMC Professional Register as a nurse level 1, and
  2. Evidence of having gained 120 Credits at level one and 120 Credits at level two through certificated prior learning and/or assessed appropriate experiential learning (this provides students with exemption from all Teaching Period I and modules amounting to 60 Credits in Teaching Period II described in the three year Bachelor in Midwifery Programme), and
  3. Satisfies the selection panel of potential to achieve course outcomes.
  4. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate that they have continued with their professional development since completing their nurse education programme. This will be demonstrated using a professional development portfolio.
  5. All offers are subject to satisfactory health screening and criminal records bureau screening.

It is not our policy to admit students to the course without an interview.

All applicants will undertake biology multiple choice questions, a biology written paper and a numeracy test on the day of the interview.

Successful students are provided with a fixed term contract of employment by their host NHS Trust for the duration of the programme. Students are to decide their preference for NHS Trust employer on the application form.
