MSc Courses - Admission Criteria

For MSc courses in Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Medical Microbiology and Microbiology & Immunology, students should hold a minimum of a 2i honours degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or allied subjects, awarded from an approved University. Candidates who do not meet these requirements may apply and their application will be considered on an individual basis. Exceptional applicants without a first degree but with significant experiential learning, that is deemed by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to be equivalent to a degree may be considered.

Applicants whose first language is not English must have one of the following qualifications for the three courses listed above:

  • A score of 7.0 in the IELTS test with no less than 6.0 in each element
  • 100 on the internet-based TOEFL examination (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking).

For MSc courses in Oncology, Cancer Immunology & Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics & Diagnostics and Immunology & Allergy, students should hold a minimum of a 2ii honours degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or allied subjects, awarded from an approved University. Exceptional applicants without a first degree but with significant experiential learning, that is deemed by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to be equivalent to a degree may be considered.

Applicants whose first language is not English must have one of the following qualifications for the four courses listed above:

  • A score of 6.5 in the IELTS test with no less than 6.0 in any element
  • 230 on the computer based TOEFL test with a TWE score of at least 4.5
  • 87 on the internet-based TOEFL examination with no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing.

The School welcomes applications from overseas candidates; there is no specific quota for such applicants and each is assessed on merit. The University's International Office and NARIC provide information about the comparability of qualifications.  

All English qualifications must have been achieved within 2 years prior to admission.
