Nanette Nielsen's primary areas of research are music and philosophy (especially the interaction of ethics and aesthetics in twentieth-century music), opera and music theatre in the Weimar Republic, and Danish music and culture. She holds a BA in Music and Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen and an MMus (Opera Studies) from Royal Holloway. She is currently converting her PhD thesis on 'Paul Bekker as Music Critic and Opera Producer: Towards an Intersection of Ethics and Aesthetics' into a monograph for Ashgate, and is also co-editing with Marcel Cobussen a volume entitled Music and Ethics.
