Biography

My bachelor degree is in Linguistics, I studied at the Metropolitan Autonomous University in Mexico City. I got my Master degree in Semiotics at the University of Tartu in Estonia. I worked as a professor of Italian at the Veracruzan University and Cristobal Colon university, I worked as a researcher and head of language department at the Intercultural Veracruzan University and I was a professor of Applied Linguistics at the University Anahuac. I am also founder of the group Opera Youth of Xalapa (OJUX). There are different operatic reviews published in the magazine Pro-Opera and Diario de Xalapa. My bachelor thesis was published with the title "Opera y Multimodalidad: un acercamiento a estudios de la ópera".

Expertise Summary

My research interest is the relation opera and society, I focus my research on the relation between opera and its audiences in the construction of a local notion of opera. My research in opera started in my bachelor thesis with a multimodal analysis of an operatic aria and it continued in my master thesis with an approach of an integral model of analysis in social opera studies. I participated as lecturer in different cultural forums in Mexico. My research topic is primarily related with ethnomusicology, media studies, theatre studies, sociology, semiotics and discourse analysis.

I also do, in my free time, research in language and culture of Zoque Popoluca culture that inhabits the south of the State of Veracruz in Mexico.

I analyze the relation of opera and its audiences, it implies the analysis of different forums and type of perception about opera from the audiences. My research analyzes the opera consumption in Nottingham whether in cinema or theatre and London also in cinema and theatre.

Past Research

A multimodal analysis of the aria Va tacito e nascosto from Giulio Cesare in Egitto by Handel. This analysis, published by Editorial Academica Española. This research focused on the relevance of this aria with the entire opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto .

An approach into an integral model of analysis of social opera studies. This research is the analysis of different sources that deal with the relation of opera and society and it draws a model to analyze specific elements of opera houses to understand the policy of theatres and their social implications within the audience.
