The thriving and energetic student-run music societies Mussoc and Blowsoc organise many of the Department's performing groups, as well as regular social events and an annual tour.
Mussoc stands for Music Society: one of the largest musical societies at the University of Nottingham. We operate independently from both the Department of Music and the Lakeside Arts Centre, but work closely with them to achieve a high standard of music-making on and around campus. This year, more than 350 people were members of this entirely student-run society. Anybody and everybody is welcome: you don’t have to be a music student to join – in fact the majority of our members aren’t!
Blowsoc is the University of Nottingham’s society for wind, brass, percussion, and string bass players. Blowsoc consistently attracts a membership of over 250 from many different and varied disciplines offered by the University. Blowsoc runs eight ensembles which perform regularly in prestigious concert venues. We represent the University of Nottingham in concerts on campus, a national competition, and abroad on our annual European tour. We have something for everyone in Blowsoc – so come along and see us at Freshers Fayre!
