Research Assessment Exercise 2008

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 85 per cent of the Department’s research was rated as ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’, a result that places us in the top 10 UK music departments.

What is the RAE?

The RAE is an official, government-sponsored rating of research across all subjects in all UK universities, which is conducted every 6 years.  With 67 different panels of academics, the RAE grades research performance in each subject area by reading the 4 best publications of each member of staff over the previous 6 years, and also by assessing the quality of the research environment at the university and the achievements of the staff members.
