Viscometry

A further measure of solution conformation (and hydration) can be obtained from intrinsic viscosity studies. For this 2ml of sample are needed at each concentration to be studied. A concentration range must be covered, the concentrations needed are highly dependent on the macromolecule in question but are likely to be mg/ml quantities. The Schott - Geräte automatic viscometer systems can also be used for the determination of solvent viscosities (sometimes needed for standardization of other hydrodynamic data acquired in unusual buffer systems).
