The University of Nottingham is gearing up for thousands of visitors to arrive for its autumn open days.

Prospective students and their parents will be flocking to the University’s three UK campuses on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11, from 9.30am to 4pm.

This year’s open days are expected to be more popular than ever, with more than 22,000 people visiting to find out about life at one of the country’s most sought-after universities.

This year’s event — themed ‘The Gateway to Your Future’ — recognises that as well as deciding where to study, prospective undergraduate students are also choosing their home for the next three or four years.

With that in mind, visitors will be able to check out the accommodation on offer at the University’s halls of residence, and hear about the range of facilities and resources offered to look after the health and welfare of students, and to support their learning.

Every single academic school and department on the three campuses will be open to visitors, offering information on hundreds of courses — from Architecture to Zoology — and running their own varied programme of activities.

Jenny Wardrop, University of Nottingham Events Officer, said: “Each year, many thousands of visitors join us for our open days to learn more about the huge range of undergraduate opportunities on offer. We will have hundreds of student helpers available on both days to answer any questions they might have about life at The University of Nottingham, and help them to explore our outstanding campus facilities.

“This has been another great year for our campuses. University Park won a record eighth consecutive Green Flag Award — given only to the very best parks and green spaces nationwide — and we have more Green Flag awards than any other University in the country, something we’re particularly proud of. We’re also investing in new teaching and learning facilities in Engineering & Science, Humanities, Maths, and Biosciences & Veterinary Medicine, to ensure that students have the very best learning environment and ensure that Nottingham remains a top-five choice for undergraduate applicants.”

Information will also be available on the GoGreener Campaign — detailing the University’s commitment to being a leading green institution by reducing energy from fossil fuels, encouraging sustainable travel and cutting down on waste.

As part of this agenda, and in response to pressure on available car parking provision, the University will be encouraging people to come along to the event by public transport and will be laying on free shuttle buses from Nottingham train station to its University Park and Jubilee Campuses, from Loughborough train station to Sutton Bonington Campus, and between campuses.

After its popularity at last year’s event, the University will again be running its free city bus tour, a guided tour bus taking in the cultural hotpots, leisure and sporting facilities, retail outlets and historic sites that make Nottingham such a popular destination.

To help visitors find their way around, the University has been divided into five colour-coded zones spread across three campuses — University Park, Sutton Bonington and Jubilee Campus.

• Zone 1 — Biosciences, Veterinary Medicine and Science; Sutton Bonington Campus, colour-coded pink

• Zone 2 — Arts, Social Sciences; University Park Campus, colour-coded orange

• Zone 3 — Science, Engineering; University Park Campus, colour-coded grey

• Zone 4 — Medicine and Health Sciences; University Park Campus and the Medical School, colour-coded green

• Zone 5 — The Business School, Computer Science, Contemporary Chinese Studies, Education; Jubilee Campus, colour-coded purple
