Living environment

You have your own room in a hall with cooking done for you as part of your accommodation fee. Your room will also be cleaned every two weeks. Bedding is provided if required, free of charge, which you are responsible for laundering. Our team of hall staff will be busy in the background making sure you have everything you need, so you can get on with those important things at university – studying and socialising.

Accommodation

We have two catered sites to choose from – University Park and Jubilee Campus, which are home to a total of 14 catered halls, all of which are owned by the University of Nottingham and managed by Nottingham Hospitality.

There are different room types available, depending on which location you choose - take a look at the room descriptions below for an overview:

You can also take a virtual tour of these rooms.

Jubilee Campus offers en-suite rooms only and University Park offers a choice of the seven room types (not all of these room types are available in every hall on University Park - see our Accommodation Map for more detailed information on the halls).

Your Room

All rooms have a single bed (three quarter in a Large Single), wardrobe, desk, chair, bookshelves, noticeboard, curtains, carpets, fridge, desk lamp, personal door lock, coat hooks, mirror, and four power sockets. All en-suite bedrooms also include a toilet and shower. Every room has a phone (handset included) and data points so you can call home and access the University's network, there is also the ability to access Freewire television in all bedrooms via your laptop. You can take a virtual tour of typical rooms.

Food

You have 19 meals a week during term time - breakfast and dinner are served in your hall dining room Monday to Friday with brunch and dinner at the weekend. There's a flexible lunch option so you can choose to eat in any of our catering outlets on Jubilee Campus or University Park.

We make sure you get plenty of dishes to choose from and a vegetarian option is always available. For example, you could have a panini or jacket potato with salad at lunch time. Dinner could be a traditional British style meal or the Chef's special which may be a Chinese or Indian style meal, or a hall favourite. There is always a choice of desserts and a selection of fresh fruit.

There is a monthly "theme night" and once per term, a formal dinner

Pantry Facilities

If you feel hungry outside of meal times you'll find a handy pantry at the end of your corridor to make yourself a snack. There is a sink, hot water boiler, microwave, fridge, recycling bins and waste bins.

Stay

The contract length is for 31 weeks, which doesn’t include vacation periods. We book residential conferences in at Christmas, Easter and over the summer so you’ll need to move out of your room during vacation time, taking your belongings with you. We have a limited number of rooms available for students that are unable to move home in vacation and you can store your belongings in hall if you need to – further information is available at the start of term from your Hall management team. Please note that once you have taken up occupancy of the accommodation you are liable to pay for the duration of the period.

Communications Package

The University and NTL have worked together to offer you a tailor-made phone package, so you can stay in touch with friends and family. It's a great deal: no connection charge, internal calls are free and you can easily top up your phone-card to make external calls.

The University's Student Network Service (SNS) provides your internet package. From the comfort of your own room you can surf the world wide web, access the University's network and email all of those new friends you'll be making. Connection to this service is already included in your accommodation fee. If you don't want the SNS service you can unsubscribe from this and we'll refund you the access fee - full instructions on how to claim your refund will be provided in your room.

New from Autumn 2007 is Freewire Television. This is TV that comes through your University data network or home broadband connection rather than a conventional aerial, satellite dish or cable. So rather than watching on a normal TV, you can take your pick from over 50 digital TV channels on your PC or laptop. Full information on how to access this service and related costs will be provided upon arrival in your room.

Insurance

Personal contents insurance is provided under the University block hall scheme through Endsleigh. Once you have accepted your place within accommodation and have secured the relevant grades to undertake your course of study you can follow a few simple steps to register with Endsleigh and download your insurance documents.

Wardens and Tutors

The Warden is responsible for the cultural, pastoral and social life of the hall and ensuring that the hall functions as a community that benefits everyone who lives there. This includes the responsibility for enforcing the hall regulations and the disciplining of students if necessary.

Each warden is supported by a team of tutors, who typically are postgraduate students or staff in academic departments and have considerable experience of life within a university. The tutors live in hall and are there to give confidential support and advice. There's always a tutor on duty throughout every night during term.

Junior Common Room

The JCR committee is a group of people who have been elected to ensure that all people in hall are able to enjoy their time there and make the most of the opportunities the University has to offer, as well as to represent you in the Student's Union . At the start of the new term, various positions will be made available for first year's to get involved in organising social activities and events.

Hall Management

The Hall Manager and their Assistant Manager are responsible for the day to day running of the hall and are committed to ensuring that you are comfortable in your new home.
