Teaching Summary

Course Lead and Lead Tutor: Diploma/B.Sc. in Health Care Studies (Forensic Pathway) This role involves;

  • The provision, maintenance, and updating of the four Forensic modules that make up the LBR Forensic Pathway (Diploma / B.Sc. in Health Care Studies [Forensic] -20 x credit modules, each offered at level 2 and level 3 to suitably qualified and experienced mental/social healthcare professionals).
  • The Forensic Programme / Pathway has a 12 month cycle.

Other Teaching Activities;

  • Providing regular teaching sessions to all Pre-registration Mental Health modules (but mainly DN16 at the Nottingham and Derby Centres);
  • Input on the Dissertation Preparation programme - see 'Concept Analysis', below;
  • Marking/Moderation;
  • Marking: Forensic modules (Diploma and B.Sc. level); Mental Health and non-Mental Health Dissertations; Pre-registration assignments (level 1 and level 2).
  • Moderation: Cross-moderation of Critical Care and Child Health - assignments, seminars, and presentations.
  • Annesley Park House (Medium Secure Services for Women - Private);
  • Wathwood (Medium Secure Unit), Rotherham, (since December 2005);
  • Peaks Unit, (DSPD Directorate), Rampton High Secure Hospital;
  • North Notts (Forensic) Community Team (based at Forest House, Mansfield), since February 2006.
  • Forensic Lead in - The Mega-PLT
  • A Trust-based initiative: The plan is that three major 'Mega-PLTs' will be formed (North, South, and 'Forensics'). Currently, I am the Forensic Mega-PLT Lead/Liaison.
  • Practice Placement Audit Team (PAT)/Auditor
  • Writing and documenting of; public relations activities (i.e. promoting the Forensic and other Mental Health Pathways);
  • Timetabling; inviting of external speakers;
  • Academic and personal tutorials; student handbooks;
  • Minutes of meetings; placement visits (for meetings with students and their clinical verifiers/mentors); T
  • The Programme's Advisory Group;
  • Administration duties (e.g. from room bookings to updating Module Specifications) associated with programme and programme-related activities.
  • Member of the Placement Audit Team.
  • Arrange and undertake audits with other PAT members
  • Involved in recruiting and training (i.e.taking new auditors out on audits so that they can observe and ask questions about the audit rationale and process) lecturer-colleagues who haven't previously been involved in the auditing of student placements).
  • Mental Health (MH) Pathways Co-ordinator
  • Full-time MH Pathways Co-ordinator.
  • Chair the monthly LBR MH meetings.
  • Dissertation Option Lead - Concept Analysis
  • As the Option Lead, responsible for presenting the option to Dissertation Cohorts. Also, with one other colleague, providing Dissertation Supervision to students who chose this dissertation option.
  • Interviewing of Prospective Pre-registration Diploma Students
  • Interviewing prospective candidates for Mental health studentships.

Other responsibilities (e.g. practice connections)

  • Practice Learning Team Co-ordinator and Representative
  • Supporting students (on third year placements) and placement staff in developing and maintaining the following PLTs:
  • Arnold Lodge (Medium Secure Unit);
