Biography

Expertise Summary

Within the Division of Nursing my activities are linked to the development, facilitation, implementation and evaluation of pre-registration nurse education linked to client care in diverse community settings. This includes developing and maintaining interdisciplinary contact with practitioners facilitating student practice placements, and utilising innovative learning strategies to maximise opportunity to succeed and demonstrate the qualities of a University of Nottingham graduate nurse on registration.

Administration

Main activities include:

  • Management and coordination of B72A17/A18 module Care Delivery and Management 1: Care of Adults in Diverse Settings.
  • Chair themed audit team and completion of educational placement audits.
  • Monitoring themed placement database to ensure currency associated with placement availability.
  • Input linked to allocation of community placements.
  • Working as the extended course tutor for the Nottingham centre managing the programme and practice placements for students.

Teaching Summary

Developmental interest and activity includes:

  • The Graduate Nurse Curriculum (GNC) working within the Assessment Care Delivery and Management and Professional Values, Safeguarding and Personal Effectiveness for Nursing Practice units.
  • Continuing to explore and utilise instructional design from macro and intermediate perspectives to inform unit development, implementation, evaluation and modification.
  • Utilising Carper's Spheres of Knowing ( see publications), and how they relate to the attainment of knowledge, skills and professional behaviour linked to both theory and practice in terms of deeper learning with students and practitioners in Northwest Consortia Practice Learning Team.
  • Preparation of blended learning materials anticipating the needs of students on an interdisciplinary basis. For example, University of Nottingham open learning resources.
  • Peer assessor for the PGCHE as required developing and sharing skills.

Research Summary

Currently responding to requests for insight to the Nurse Practitioner role from researchers exploring their activity in other health care systems.

The work of the Nurse Practitioner in primary care exploring the Nurse Practitioner and General Practitioner attitudes and perspectives to the role.

Future Research

Will be linked to the role of the nurse in diverse community settings.
