Biography
Maggie Roberts began her academic career in the study of the social sciences. With a first degree in Social Administration and an enthusiasm for social policy Maggie began teaching applied social science to the 'Project 2,000' nursing curriculum at the beginning of the 1990s. Maggie came into the University from a background of community working. Having trained as a registered general nurse, then midwife and health visitor she had a strong focus on working in public health and an interest in working with women and their families. Her community links are currently maintained by practice links with the County Practice Learning Team covering the Gedling / Mansfield area. This brings her in to regular contact with a variety of community nurses working in local health centres. Her current focus on long term conditions management brings her into contact with community matrons working in the region. Continuing care is another area of interest and this is reflected in her practice links with nursing homes in the Nottingham area.
Teaching has been a strong component of her approach to nursing and her educational philosophy is one of facilitation. This approach to teaching and learning is expressed in her lead role as work-based learning co-ordinator. Maggie is involved in developing new modules and is undertaking doctoral studies where this is the focus of her research.
Maggie has always been passionate about encouraging international working and is currently involved in a European funded project looking at the skills nurse's require for mobility. This Leornardo funded work will run from 2010 -2012 - project name TRaNSforM.
