Biography

Employed by the University of Nottingham (City campus), Academic Division of Midwifery, Maureen works as a midwifery lecturer. She is also a supervisor of midwives, where she supports both independent and NHS based midwives.

Maureen undertakes clinical practice on a weekly basis on the local Labour Suite and Maternity Assessment Suite, where she is link/liaison lecturer. This affords collaboratively working opportunities with midwives and other disciplines. Her specialist interests including research are psychosocial issues, perinatal mental health/illness, intrapartum care, critical care, perineal care and developing/maintaining competence in new skills. She convenes the 'Best Practice' learning beyond registration module in perineal care offered at both Masters and first degree level, and is one of the named module leaders for the high dependency care course.

Maureen is a member of Nottinghamshire Perinatal Mental Health Management Network Group, Partnership in Maternity Service (PIMS) i.e. the local Maternity Services Liaison Committee, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Marcé Society (UKIMS) and a member of the local labour suite forum and management groups.

Her publications have included journal articles, book chapters and popular midwifery text books where she has co-edited/co-authored, namely: Decision Making in Midwifery Practice and Advancing Skills in Midwifery Practice published by Elsevier and Psychology for Midwives published by OUP. She also acts as a peer reviewer for Midwifery journal.

Maureen is the PI for the collaborative study: Assessing degree of time spent by midwives providing continuous one-to-one care for women in active labour: a questionnaire and video study.
