Biography

Currently I am Associate Professor, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy and Director of the Centre for Interprofessional Education and Learning at the University of Nottingham, Faculuty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Following a varied career expanding both adult and mental health nursing practice gaining clinical and managerial experience in the NHS. I have had extensive experience in curriculum design and development in undergraduate nursing within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences since moving into academia. During this time I have developed a passion for embedding Interprofessional Learning within undergraduate health and social care curricula within the University of Nottingham. Through this interest I have gained extensive experience in facilitating Interprofessional Learning Student Conferences and Interprofessional Learning sets. From these endeavours I was successful in 2008 in gaining the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Faculty of Science and Faculty of Law and Social Policy within the University of Nottingham funding of the Centre for Interprofessional Education and Learning [ www.nottingham.ac.uk/ciel] . The principal aim of CIEL is to embed IPL in the seven undergraduate programmes of Dietetics, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Social Work.

I led the project group in the successful collaborative bid with Sheffield Hallam University for the TUILIP Project becoming the TUILIP Project Co-ordinator and gaining £560k funding form East Midlands SHA. More recently I have been successful in gaining funding from the Centre for Integrative Learning £5k to evaluate the Interprofessional Learning sets and a further £5k to develop student facilitators to facilitate first year learning sets. I have an extensive presentation portfolio presenting at national and international conferences on the development, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional learning. The Centre has hosted two National IPL conferences within the University of Nottingham. In 2009 I was elected to the CAIPE Board of Directors [ www.CAIPE.org.uk ] and am co editor of the CAIPE Bulletin.
