Academic Lead for Child Health, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences
Born in Cheshire and educated in Nottinghamshire and Rutland, I entered nursing as a general nurse in Sheffield and soon became convinced that children's nursing was my preferred career. I therefore completed my children nurse training in 1989. After working as a staff nurse and sister in Sheffield Children's Hospital I decided that I would be well suited for nurse education. I was successful in gaining my P.G.C.E. in nurse education in York in 1993 and subsequently accepted the offer of a teaching post at Mid Trent College upon qualification.
Since joining the college in 1993 I have seen my career develop from lecturer to senior lecturer and now to Associate Professor. After the college joined the university in 1995 I sought to develop my own academic skills by successfully completing an M.Phil in 2000 and an Ed(D) in 2011.
I have led module, program and course development
I am currently the strategic lead for the child health team within the Division of Nursing.
