Boston & Grantham Education Centres
The Boston Centre is based on two education sites attached to the hospitals at Boston (Pilgrim Hospital) and Grantham (Grantham and District Hospital). At Boston, there is up-to-date teaching equipment in classrooms and seminar rooms, and increasing use is made of computer assisted learning. Excellent 24 hour computer rooms are available.
Because of the rural nature of the area clinical placements are available in a variety of locations. The ability to drive and the use of a vehicle is increasingly important, although the Division will always take access into account when arranging practice experience for individual students.
About Boston
In medieval times Boston was one of Britain's leading ports and today it is still an important town standing on the banks of the River Witham. Boston's fine historic buildings include the Maud Foster Mill, the tallest working windmill in Britain and the tower of St. Boltoph's Church, known locally as the 'Boston Stump', which can be seen from up to 20 miles away.
There are numerous places to visit in and around the Boston area. Sports facilities are available at the Peter Paine Sports Centre, swimming at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Pool Complex, and only 25 miles away to the east is the popular seaside resort of Skegness. A range of well-known high street and specialist shops can be found in the town centre as well as a number of fast food outlets and interesting restaurants.
Travelling to and from Boston is simple, London is less than two hours away by rail, there are trains to Nottingham every hour or so through the day and major routes including the A1 are nearby.
About Grantham
Grantham Education Site is a 10 minute walk from the town centre.
The library is available 24 hours a day. Access arrangements are explained to all registered users. It has a University networked PC and this gives access to the full range of databases and other resources available via the University of Nottingham network.
Students can eat in the restaurant or purchase from the hospital shop or common room vending machines.
