Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning (AP(E)L)
Welcome to the Schools web pages on AP(E)L for the Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) programmes. The AP(E)L scheme is for applicants who want to register for an undergraduate Learning Beyond Registration degree but do not have the required number of credits at the appropriate level, or whose credits were awarded more than 10 years ago, at the time of their application. The AP(E)L process enables credit to be awarded for prior learning and/or experience and the currency of credits to be updated enabling the requirements for registration to be met.
Accessing the AP(E)L scheme
The AP(E)L scheme can only be accessed through applying for your chosen degree programme. Once your application has been received you will be sent a receipt for the application. If you do not meet the requirements you will receive a letter setting out the number of credits you need to achieve for registration, an AP(E)L claim form to be completed and be allocated an AP(E)L advisor.
Please note: Applicants with 'non UK' qualifications and other healthcare professionals are strongly advised to make an early application to enable the equivalence of their qualifications to be verified or further information to be provided. Failure to make an early application may result in delays in processing the application and subsequent registration on the degree programme.
Entry requirements for registering for an undergraduate LBR degree
-
120 credits at level 1 (automatically awarded to all ‘1st level’ registered nurses in respect of their Registration qualification and may be awarded to other qualified Healthcare Professionals) and
-
120 credits at level 2 that have been completed within the past 10 years (40 level 2 credits may be awarded via AP(E)L for current contemporary practice)
(The above credits must have been awarded for nursing or health studies (or equivalent) qualifications)
AP(E)L handbook
