Past Research

My previous research has focused on an understanding of lay and professional perspectives of health and illness, with particular reference to medicines use, the recognition and treatment of depression and concordance issues, including communication in medical consultations, and the use of patient information as a resource in coping with serious mental and physical illness. I have recently completed an evaluation of Samaritans Telephone and Email Emotional Support Service.

Future Research

My current role within the School is to support research within the Sue Ryder Care Centre for the Study of Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care (SRCC). I am involved in studies of the care of patients with dementia who die on acute hospital wards and patient preferences in relation to Advance Care Planning for end of life care.
