Research and Knowledge Transfer Strategy are essential to the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy's mission to be a leading academic centre in the UK and beyond.

This strategy has been developed following:

a successful RAE result in 2008

a new school with three divisions: Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy

a new Director and Deputy Director of Research

consultation with School researchers

publication of the University’s Research and Knowledge Transfer Strategy in July 2009
Aim
The overriding aim of this Strategy is to:

outline the school’s plan in the next five years to maintain our commitment to excellence
-
improve the quality of our research outputs, the impact of our research on practice and the dissemination of research to our stakeholders
Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy practice is underpinned by a strong academic base providing the best available evidence, generated from well-designed, funded research, disseminated via quality outputs.
The strategy is based upon the following principles:

Continued investment in quality research and knowledge transfer activities

Provision of improved support to develop career researchers

Focus on research excellence with clear expectations about the performance, support and conduct of individuals and research groups

Involvement of health service users, carers and the wider public in research

Provision of an excellent research learning environment

Expectation that research will have demonstrable outcomes that improve health and social care provision, influence policy and develop nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy practice

Improved international research activities with international partners and funding bodies
