What is it?

Widening participation aims to broaden the range of students who attend university so that they are representative of the home population.

There are 2 arms to the University of Nottingham's widening participation programme:

  • Our outreach work aims to raise aspirations, attainment and progression to university and the University of Nottingham;
  • Our internal 'inreach' work aims to support entry and retention.

Why do it?

"Widening participation brings considerable public benefit. A diverse student population is essential to vibrant intellectual enquiry and a resilient knowledge economy"

HEFCE Strategy Statement 2011

At the University of Nottingham we believe that a socially and culturally diverse student body enriches the learning experience for all students.
