What is it?

Widening participation aims to broaden the range of students who attend university so that they are representative of the home population.

Why do it?

widening participation brings considerable public benefit.  A diverse student population is essential to vibrant intellectual enquiry and a resilient knowledge economy

     HEFCE Strategy Statement 2011

How we do it

There are two arms to the University of Nottingham's widening participation program:

  • our outreach work aims to raise aspirations, attainment and progression to university and the University of Nottingham;
  • our internal WP 'inreach' work aims to support entry and retention.

University of Nottingham staff and students can find more information on the Schools and Colleges Engagement, Recruitment and Admissions and Student Ambassador workspace sites.
