Nottingham Potential Summer School 2016

The Nottingham Potential Summer School is a unique opportunity for high-achieving Year 12 students from the Midlands to join us at The University of Nottingham for a week of living, learning and socialising like a University student – for free! For 2016, we offered the following streams (click on the subjects below to see required A-Levels):


26th June - 1st July 2016:

  • Architecture, Engineering and Physics
  • Law, Politics and International Relations  
  • Nursing and Midwifery
  • Pharmacy
  • Psychology and Philosophy
  •  Architecture, Engineering and Physics - taking one or more of Physics, Maths, Technology or Geography
  •  Law, Politics and International Relations - no specific subjects required
  •  Nursing and Midwifery - taking a science subject at A-level
  •  Pharmacy - taking Chemistry and one further science from Biology, Physics or Maths at A-level
  •  Psychology and Philosophy – no specific subjects required

10th -15th July 2016:

  • Business, Maths and Economics
  • English, American and Film Studies
  • Medical Physiology
  • Medicine
  • Sustainable Chemistry 
  • Business, Maths and Economics - no specific subjects required
  • English, American and Film Studies - taking English at A-level
  • Medical Physiology - taking Biology or Chemistry at A-level
  • Medicine - taking Biology and Chemistry at A-level 
  • Sustainable Chemistry- taking Chemistry at A-level







The Nottingham Potential Summer School is open to regional Year 12 students (home UK only) currently studying at a state/maintained school or college. Applicants must also:

  • have achieved at least 7 A*-C grades at GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Maths^
  • be studying relevant subjects for the strand applied for

Places are limited and so first priority will be given to students who also meet one of the following:

  • living in a household which receives Child Tax Credit or an equivalent means-tested benefit (evidence required)
  • have a disability affecting your studies
  • are, or have previously been in, local authority care/looked after

We will then give priority to students who meet two of the following:

  • live in a household with an income under £42,600
  • have parents who have not been to University
  • attend a school/college with an average point score below 800 (teachers can advise on this)

^Where subject strands are oversubscribed, priority will be given to eligible students who have more A* and A grades.

 Students need to be under the age of 18 at the time of the summer school
