Glossary of Abbreviations Used

NMC

Nursing and Midwifery Council - the professional regulating body for nursing and midwifery

OAR

Ongoing Achievement Record - the continuous assessment record introduced as part of the new NMC Standards (2008)

SPL

Supporting Practice Learning - the module used for mentor preparation locally. There are equivalent mentor preparation modules elsewhere and all should have NMC approval to run as a quality assurance measure and also to ensure that preparation does not need to be repeated.

ESC

Essential Skills Cluster assessments introduced in September 2007. Students commencing their course after this date will be required to have skills assessed in practice and in the education setting.
