Assorted Reference Works

• Acronyms for Health Information Resources Alphabetized list of acronyms, with links to web pages for organizations, publications, etc.

• Acronym and Abbreviation List Searchable index of acronyms

• Dictionary of Cell Biology (Academic Press) has >5000 entries and cross-references.

• American Association of University Presses Book database, searchable by jughead (title & author) [yes, jughead is the name of a search program] or by WAIS (full text). For pathology books try the search strategy: pathology not plant not speech not psych*

• Book Stacks Unlimited has book reviews & previews, lists of books available, telnet book ordering, extensive collection of publisher's WWW pages.

• BioMedNet is a commercial site with online references- charges for full texts, discounts if you have hard copy subscriptions to the journals or if your library has an institutional membership (U. of Rochester does.) Has job listings too. Joining is free but requires setting up an account including credit card info.

• Virus Database, Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC), DOE has a long list of viruses for all platforms, links to other virus databases, and link to virus hoax page.

• Clinical Lab Handbook, U of VA A to Z list of tests used in the clinical laboratory and pathology. Includes laboratory value interpretation and collection instructions. University of Virginia Clinical Laboratories.

• CMEA- Continuing Medical Education Associates Health sciences multimedia- CD roms including several in pathology

• Computer Currents On-Line Dictionary Searchable dictionary of acronyms and jargon.

• EINet Galaxy has links to some common reference books, dictionaries, links to a large number of searchable indexes, ability to seach EINet databases

• Electronic Reference Works, U Chicago Gopher has a nice collection of reference works, gov't docs, searchable dictionaries, thesaurus, periodic table.

• EndNote styles for Various Biology Journals Useful if you use the EndNote bibliography management program.

• Government Publications Network US Gov't Publications info (incl AFIP Atlas of Tumor Pathology), links to British & EC Government publications

• Internet Public Library has on-line access to reference librarians as well as on-line texts and reference works, including some medical.

• Acta Cytologica Journal of Clinical Cytology and Cytopathology. The address that lets you connect to 60,000 cytopathologists, clinical cytologists and cytotechnologists in 71 countries.

• Journal of Pathology The official journal of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland

• Mailing list gateway This service is intended to present information about a set of mailing lists, allow people to easily use mailing list commands, and provide a hypertext interface to list archives which exist on the NetSpace server.

• Merck Manual full text and searchable

• Physicians & Surgeons Web Directory is a listing of Physicians' home pages, registration fee to get listed. Organized by country and state, and by speciality within state. Additional short list of medical links.

• PMIC (Practice Management Information Corp) Medical Book Store specialize in coding and practice management, say you can order any medical book

• RadEFX(sm) Radiation Health Effects Research Resource (Baylor) related to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in general and the Chernobyl nuclear accident in particular.

• Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography HTML: Acrobat: Word: This bibliography presents selected articles, books, electronic documents, and other sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet and other networks.

• Springer-Verlag Publishers has book information and on-line samples.

• TB MANUAL- TREATMENT PROTOCOLS This manual assists medical providers in offerring tuberculosis services in an effective, efficient, and caring manner.
