Video on the anatomy of the human heart Siobhan Loughna (School of Biomedical Sciences). This project will involve creating a video of the anatomy and dissection of the adult human heart, which will then be make available to 1st year students as part of a teaching session. It is intended that students will utilise this video prior to performing the dissection on the heart themselves, and subsequently as an aid to revising. The broad objective of the video is to allow students to visualise how a dissection on the human heart is performed, with the most important aspects of the hearts normal anatomy as well as some of the most common abnormalities and clinical problems emphasised. Dissection of the heart is relatively complicated. There are many different structures that the students are expected to know, and how they form during development and function during adulthood. The video will include drawings and images of the heart during development, and how such developmental processes go wrong leading to abnormalities. Important functional information on various structures will be outlined. This video will demonstrate how to dissect a heart and will give the students a comprehensive summary of heart anatomy and development, as well as emphasising important aspects for the clinician. Therefore, prior to entering the dissection room, the students will be able to visualise how a heart is dissected correctly. With the correct background reading, a student should then be fully armed to enter the dissection room with a sound knowledge of what is expected of them. |
