About Clinical Educators
The clinical educators, or teacher practitioners, are a group of practicing pharmacists who dedicate part of their time to teaching undergraduates at the university.
We have a team of hospital clinical educators, lead by Lyneth Hicks, all of whom work part of their week as senior hospital pharmacists at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. As well as being qualified pharmacists, we must also have a “Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy” to undertake this role. We contribute to teaching throughout all four years of the pharmacy degree, with the main focus being on the delivery of clinical pharmacy and therapeutic skills as well as providing student placements and experience within the hospital environment.
We also have a team of community clinical educators, Vibhu Solanki (
Boots U.K) and Tony Shaw (
Weldricks LTD), both of whom are involved in the design and delivery of pharmacy practice related modules. Community clinical educators provide up to date and practical experience to Pharmacy law and ethics, prescription dispensing and counselling skills, responding to patient symptoms and communication skills. They provide teaching support to all four undergraduate years as well as the pre-MPharm foundation course. Boots organise undergraduate placements to its community pharmacies and pharmaceutical manufacturing sites.
