Current Research
I am suspicious of accounts of moral reasons premised on the existence of external reasons for action (i.e. reasons which are independent of our existing propositional attitudes). However, I do believe that there are reasons for action which can properly be called moral. Such reasons, I believe, are associated with a desire to have social relations of a particular sort with other human beings (specifically, interpersonal relationships, where these involve participant reactive attitudes in Strawson's sense). I aim to go some way towards isolating moral reasons which reflect a desire for positive interpersonal relations, while remaining faithful to our common intuitions about what is moral.
