Facilities

The University's main campus provides superb, modern facilities set in an attractive lakeside park of some 300 acres. Most University halls of residence are located on this site. The School is located in the Law and Social Sciences Building at the centre of the campus and adjacent to the main University library.

Our building features seminar rooms, lecture rooms and a coffee bar. The nearby Portland Building with the Student Union facilities also houses a bookshop, a bank, shops, travel agents and several cafés and restaurants. There is also a performing arts centre and an art gallery close to the lake.

Computers for student use are provided at locations throughout the University – most are in computer rooms and accessible 24 hours a day. Students are also able to use personal equipment such as laptops, handheld devices and MP3 players, increasingly via wireless technology installed across our campuses. Our network links PCs to central servers and the internet. Nottingham students benefit from a number of Connected Campus Network Zones, which provide wireless and plug-in internet access at various 'hotspots' across campus.

Our students have access to over to over one million books and journals and a further 12,000 ejournal titles and 650,000 ebook items available online. The main focus for these materials is the Hallward Library, some 100 yards from our building. The library now offers a range of 24/7 services, for example by providing round-the-clock opening at some of the libraries at exam times. The Hallward is being developed as a  Learning Hub – a learning space that provides a mix of traditional and state-of-the-art learning methods.

All students can apply for accommodation on campus. The University's student accommodation is very high quality, and provides a secure environment in which to study. There are also excellent sports facilities on campus including a new swimming pool. There are facilities for popular indoor sports such as badminton, volleyball, squash, swimming and snooker, plus, of course, rugby, football, tennis, hockey and cricket. We also have a state of the art fitness centre, housing modern cardiovascular equipment, resistance machinery and free weights. There are also many exercise, aerobics and dance classes available to everyone and opportunities to learn a new sports.
