MA in International Relations (Research Track)

1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

The MA in International Relations (Research Track) is an ESRC recognised programme that has been established to meet the demand from applicants of exceptional quality for a programme which will prepare them for advanced research in international studies.

The programme offers an excellent grounding for entry onto a PhD programme. It provides 3 key elements: research training, subject specific training, and generic skills training.

By the end of the programme, students will have:

  • developed a critical understanding of the methodological and ethical issues involved in undertaking research in international relations
  • identified and discussed key concepts such as power, agency, the state, international society, and order
  • analysed the strengths and weaknesses of major theoretical approaches to international relations
  • acquired general research, communication, and personal development skills as well as data analysis and professional academic report writing skills

Students are also invited to attend a series of talks given by distinguished practitioners from outside academia, which provide an opportunity for interaction with key figures from the world of politics and international relations.
