How to Apply

 

The School of Politics and International Relations will consider applications throughout the year. However we would advise students to apply as early as possible especially if a UK study visa is required or a funding application is to be considered as such applications often have deadlines early in the year. If you require an further details please contact the School.

Postgraduate programmes commence in September.

Application for our postgraduate degrees can be made either:

Applications for Postgraduate Taught Research Track and Research degrees will be forwarded to the School for consideration. All other postgraduate taught degrees applications will be processed by The University’s Admissions Department. 


Entry Qualifications/Requirements

MA Taught Programmes

Applicants for our Taught Masters programmes are normally expected to have at least an upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent qualification). Career experience, such as military officer training, may also be taken into account.

Those applicants whose first language is not English will be required to show competence in English by providing one of the following:

  • 6.5 in the IELTS test (with a minimum of 6.0 for each element)
  • TOEFL 573 (paper based) 230 (computer based) with a TWE/Essay score of at least 4.5
  • TOEFL / IBT 88 (with a minimum of 19 in any element)
  • Cambridge language certificate grade C or above

Please note applicants for the MA in Diplomacy are required to provide:

  • 7 in the IELTS test (with a minimum of 6.0 for each element)
  • TOEFL 600 (paper based) 250 (computer based) with a TWE/Essay score of at least 5.0
  • TOEFL / IBT 100 (with a minimum of 19 in any element)

The University of Nottingham offers both pre and inter-sessional English language courses, through the Centre for English Language Education (CELE). 


MA Research Track Taught Programmes/MRes

Applicants for the MA Research Track Taught programmes or the MRes programme are normally expected to have attained the requirements shown above for the MA Taught programmes. Those applicants applying for the MRes programme are also required to submit a research proposal of approximately 2000 words with their application.


Fees

Tuition fees are adjusted annually and are set for each individual degree.
