Research Topic

An Agonistic Alternative to Cosmopolitanism

My research demonstrates how agonism can be used to overcome problems of value incommensurability which lead to fundamentalism in a pluralist society. The research employs a post-structuralist methodology to discuss agonism’s emphasis on public engagement, contestation and contingency. It also aspires to explore the institutions and motivational narratives necessary for its implementation as a conflict mediator. Finally, the research will discuss the potential for a global system of agonism that seeks to combat fundamentalism such as international terrorism.
