How to Apply

 

Applicants wishing to apply for a research degree should send:

  • a completed application form together with the required documentation (including 2 academic references)
  • a supporting statement
  • a 2,000 word project proposal

Full details of the postgraduate application procedures can be found on the postgraduate study pages. Guidance to writing a research proposal (PDF) and an example of a model PhD research proposal (PDF) are given to assist you with the process and to illustrate what is required.

Entry Qualifications / Requirements

Applicants for Research programmes would normally be expected to have graduated or be about to graduate from Masters degree in a relevant subject, with an average of over 60% (or its equivalent).

Interview

Applicants are encouraged to make contact prior to the application process with possible supervisors.  You may wish to take a look at the areas of supervision offered by staff in the School. However all applications will be considered even if prior contact has not been made.

Once an application has been received, applicants who are not already known personally to the potential supervisor, will be contacted for a short interview to discuss the intended topic of your research.  This interview can take the form of face to face interview, via Skype or over the telephone.

The Postgraduate Research Tutor, will then make a decision on offering a place of study in the School.

Fees

Tuition fees are adjusted annually and are set for each individual degree.
