REF Results 2021

The School of Psychology, part of Unit of Assessment (UoA) 4 (Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience) maintains a strong position in the upper half of the unit, with an increase from REF2014 in the percentage of both ‘internationally excellent’ and ‘world-leading’ outputs, with a significant increase in those assessed as ‘world-leading’. All of the impact case studies submitted were viewed as being ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’.  The school’s research environment is recognised as being at least ‘internationally excellent’, with 62.5% ‘world leading’. The UoA is ranked by Times Higher Education as 8th in the UK for research power, which takes into account a combination of the quality of our research, its international impact, critical mass and sustainability.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded £29.1 million to establish the UK’s most powerful Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner as a national facility.
