What will the Experience Programme do for me?

The Programme will provide you with first-hand experience of university - both campus life and academic courses - through a residential Summer School. You will receive ongoing advice and guidance throughout Year 13 via our e-Mentoring scheme. Finally, revision days will assist you with your studies and exam preparation. You could also earn £1000 a year (per year of study) if you complete the Programme and enrol as an undergraduate at The University of Nottingham.

How long is the Experience Programme?

The Programme lasts from July-May.

What do I have to do to get a place on the Programme?

You have to be studying in Year 12, going into Year 13, and attending a state-maintained school/college in the East Midlands region. Places are limited and selection is based on a number of school and personal criteria (see 'Eligibility and Applications' for the full list of criteria). Application forms will be available on the website from January 2013. All you need to do is fill in an application form, have it signed by a teacher and send it back to us by the deadline. We'll contact you in April to let you know if you have a place.

How much will the Programme cost?

Nothing. The Programme is free and travel costs will be reimbursed. You can actually gain money as there is also a £1,000 a year bursary available to all who successfully complete the Programme and then come to study at the University of Nottingham!

What can I expect from the Summer School?

The Summer School is a great introduction to the Programme and is a fun and easy way to meet other people who are involved. You will take part in a 'strand' whereby you will attend lectures and seminars given by University academics in your subject area, for example Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences. You will have the opportunity to live on campus for a week and get a taste of university life. There are also social activities every night such as a quiz night, sports competitions and a disco.

What will the Student Ambassadors and e-Mentors be like?

The Summer School Ambassadors and e-Mentors you'll be working with are friendly and helpful. They are all current students at the University, so they fully understand the kinds of choices you are now facing. They will be more than happy to talk to you about why they decided to go to uni and what they hope to do after Graduation, as well as answer all your university and UCAS questions.

Can I attend just the Summer School?

No. The Programme is a year long to help provide you with support throughout the whole process of Year 13.

What is involved with the e-Mentoring scheme?

The e-Mentoring scheme will start immediately after Summer Schools and is designed so that you are in direct contact with a student from the University of Nottingham. They will be in touch with you throughout the year, helping you with UCAS forms, university choices and even revision ideas for your A2s. The e-Mentoring system also features a forum so you can talk to the other students on the Programme regarding choices into higher education or certain subject areas in particular.

What will I do on the revision days?

These are designed to help you work for your forthcoming A2s and give you a helping hand with exam techniques and study skills. There will be a few different topics to choose from both in November/December and March/April, and to complete the Programme you must attend at least one in each of these months. In addition to assisting you with exam preparation, the sessions will also give you a chance to catch up with your friends and e-Mentors from the Summer School.
