FAQs
How do I get a place on the Summer Schools?
You have to be studying in Year 12, going into Year 13, and attending a state/maintained school/college in the UK. Places are limited and selection will be according to a number of school and personal criteria (see 'Eligibility and Benefits' for the full list of criteria). Access to the online application is on the Sutton Trust website from January 2012.
How much will the Summer Schools cost?
Nothing. The Summer Schools are free and travel costs will be reimbursed. You can actually make money from the Summer Schools as there is also £1,000 a year bursary available to all who successfully complete the Summer School and then come to study at The University of Nottingham!
What can I expect from the Summer Schools?
The Summer Schools are a great introduction to the Programme and are a fun and easy way to meet other people who are involved. You will take part in a strand whereby you will attend lectures and seminars given by University academics in your subject area, for example Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences. You will have the opportunity to live on campus for a week and get a taste of University life. There are also social activities every night such as quiz night, sport competitions and a disco.
What will the Ambassadors be like?
The Summer School Ambassadors you'll be working with are friendly and helpful. They are all current students at the University, so they fully understand the kinds of choices you are now facing. They will be more than happy to talk to you about why they decided to go to uni and what they hope to do after Graduation, as well as answer all your university and UCAS questions. See our ambassador profiles to see a few people who have worked on Summer Schools.
What will the accommodation be like?
The accommodation will be in halls of residence on campus. You will have your own room and will be able to see what it might be like for the first year of university. For more information please visit our accomodation website or have a look at a typical university room.
