Fudan-SJTU-Nottingham Plant Biotechnology Research and Development Centre

The Fudan-SJTU-Nottingham Plant Biotechnology Research and Development Centre is a joint venture between:

  • Fudan University, China
  • Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU),  China
  • The University of Nottingham

The Centre was established to facilitate closer collaboration and progress in plant biotechnology and aims to:

  • research basic issues of plant and plant-related science
  • develop innovative education and outreach programmes
  • establish an interactive network with private industry and public institutions worldwide

It will promote joint application for international funds, provide mutual training and exchange for research staff and students and pool resources and expertise to undertake work in key areas, including:

  • molecular cloning of functional genes from wild plant resources
  • using plants as bioreactors to produce pharmaceutical products or functional foods with health benefits
  • molecular farming for Chinese traditional medicine
  • engineering crops for improved quality and quantity, such as enhanced insect and disease resistance and improving nutritional quality
  • biosafety and field research of GMO
  • fundamental research in plant breeding, genetics and biotechnology
