Arthritis Research UK Pain Centre

The University also hosts the Arthritis Research UK (ARC) Pain Centre. The ARC Pain Centre was set up to:

• investigate the mechanisms that lead to the chronic pain experienced by sufferers of arthritis
• improve the treatment of arthritic pain

This includes researching:

• psychological aspects, such as patients beliefs about their pain
• magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain activity
• peripheral, spinal and brain mechanisms contributing to osteoathritic pain

The Centre is funded by a substantial award from the Arthritis Research UK.
