Description

The AHRC has made a grant to the Universities of Cambridge, Nottingham and Oxford under the Collaborative Research Training Scheme (Language Skills Training) for 2010-12. The grant will be used to hold two Master-Classes, in Oxford in 2011 and Nottingham in 2012, to offer graduate students in the field of Old Norse-Icelandic and Viking Studies language and related skills that will enhance their academic research.

Applications are now invited for the second Master-Classes, in Nottingham on 3-6 January 2012, from PhD students and Masters students in the UK or Ireland undertaking research in Old Norse-Icelandic and Viking Studies. Intensive language training will be provided in Norwegian, Icelandic and Swedish (students will choose at least two of the three) and skills training will be offered in Germanic Philology, Name Studies, Runology and Paleography/Editing  (students will choose at least two of the four). Students are expected to stay for the whole duration of the masterclass.
