The Digital Mental Health and Wellbeing research group is a partnership between the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology and the NIHR MindTech HTC, based in the Institute of Mental Health at The University of Nottingham.

Aims

The Digital Mental Health and Wellbeing research group aims to:

  • Identify unmet clinical needs in mental health and dementia
  • Collaborate with academic and industry partnerships in developing and testing new technologies for mental health and dementia
  • Provide expertise and advice in helping increase the adaptation of digital technologies in healthcare

Current projects

The use of digital tools for delivering behavioural treatment for Tourette’s Syndrome

MindTech is currently investigating how digital technologies – such as smartphone apps – can be used to deliver evidence-based therapies for young people with Tourette’s Syndrome.

Mental health first aid of university students

We are currently conducting research exploring the helping behaviours (‘mental health first aid’) that university students may provide to a friend experiencing a mental health problem, and how online training courses may help students’ abilities to support a friend experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.

Toolkit for Appraising Digital Mental Health Products
MindTech is collaborating with Leeds and York NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Leeds to develop a common set of criteria for evaluating digital mental health tools such as apps and mobile websites – click here to see the toolkit 
 

Collaborators

The Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology works in partnership with the NIHR MindTech Healthcare Technology Co-Operative and the Institute of Mental Health

We are also currently involved in a number of academic and industry partnerships, including the NICE, uMotif, and The University of Oxford.
