The global population is predicted to reach 10 billion by 2050. To meet the demands for food and resources, novel and innovative processing technologies will be required to deliver step change in productivity, efficiency and sustainability across all processing and manufacturing industries.

Research within the group looks to apply novel technologies such as:

Advanced processing technologies_466x235

Advanced processing technologies

  • cold plasma
  • microwave and RF dielectric heating
  • magnetic induction
  • ultrasound to intensify processes and facilitate minimally processed products

Research projects include cold plasmas for biological applications, dielectric heating for non-chemical disinfestation of agricultural products and rapid synthesis of advanced porous materials using induction heating.
