Nia Wyn Jones qualified as a medical doctor with a first class honours degree at the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1998. From an inspired teacher in Obstetrics and Gynaecology she developed an interest in feto-maternal medicine and has pursued this as her career interest since this time. She successfully completed postgraduate qualifications in medicine (MRCP examination in 2002) and clinical obstetrics and gynaecology (MRCOG in 2008). She took time out of her training to undertake research at the University of Nottingham and was awarded a PhD in 2011 on the subject of 'Modern imaging techniques to study placentation'. She completed her post-graduate training in a sub-specialty training post in feto-maternal medicine at the Nottingham. Her interest in academic medicine was developed during her time at Nottingham and culminated in an appointment as an Associate Professor post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Nottingham and an honorary consultant in Obstetrics and sub-specialist in Feto-Maternal Medicine at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
