The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers

Concordat logo

The University of Nottingham is committed to the embedding the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers in its policies and practices. This agenda is driven by the University's Research-only Staff Group (RoSG).

The Research-only Staff Group (RoSG)

The RoSG was established in 2007 to provide a forum to discuss research related issues. The Group meets three times per academic year and reports to the University’s Research and Knowledge Transfer Board (RKTB).

Membership of the RoSG
  • PVC for Research or his/her nominee (Chair)
  • Dean of the Graduate School
  • Head of the Graduate School
  • Head of Researcher Development
  • Deputy Director of Human Resources
  • Graduate Centre Manager (secretary)
  • Careers Adviser for Research Staff
  • 1 x Senior Research Staff representative
  • 5 x Research Staff representatives (one per faculty)
RoSG aims
  • To draw together existing knowledge and research findings (and conduct new research) about the issues effecting research staff (terms and conditions, needs and wants) to inform the development of strategy
  • To take into account external drivers (regional, national etc) when developing strategy
  • To further develop the sense of community amongst research staff at the university
  • To ensure coherence and maximise the potential of current centrally-provided support for research staff
  • To identify and promote staff development activities which meet the specific needs of research staff
  • To disseminate best practices across schools.

Concordat implementation

Since the launch of the Concordat in 2008, the RoSG has:

1. Undertaken and published an institutional and school-level benchmarking/gap analysis against the Concordat principles (December 2010) drawing on data from:

2. Developed the University's Concordat Action Plan 2011-2014 and a monitoring process to address areas emerging from the benchmarking gap/analysis.

Actions identified in this plan are aligned with the University's Strategic Plan 2010-2015 and Research and Knowledge Transfer Strategy (local access only).
