Radiation Protection Supervisor - Notification of Appointment
Form
This form is to be completed by the Head of School and returned
to the Safety Office to notify the appointment of a new Radiation Protection
Supervisor. It is a legal requirement that Radiation Protection Supervisors
are competent to perform their duties and consequently it is a University
requirement that they attend a training course that has been approved
by the Safety Office. RPS training is now provided through attendence
at an external 2-day training course. This is mandatory for new appointments,
which will not be accepted without this. Radioactive work cannot be
undertaken in an area if a suitable RPS has not been appointed.
Radiation Protection Supervisors are expected to remain in post for a number
of years and any transfer of duties must be planned to coincide with
the availability of training. The prefered training provider runs several
courses a year and it should be possible to enable the intended RPS
to attend a course at relatively short notice - 2 to 3 months.
