A paper examining studies on biomarkers in the diagnosis of liver fibrosis by
Dr Neil Guha, Clinical Associate Professor, and three collaborators from the US and Canada has been published in leading specialist journal
Hepatology.
The paper is a review on how studies are designed and performed for discovering new biomarkers to diagnose significant liver disease. Research into biomarkers is an active area within liver disease because the established methods require a biopsy which can be inconvenient and uncomfortable for patients. However there is a great deal of variability in how these studies are conducted, reported and analysed. The paper critically examines these aspects with the aim of stimulating debate and improving research in this area.
