Biography

Iain Moppett is a research active associate professor and honorary consultnat anaesthetist. His research interests are focussed on four main areas.

1) The impact of fluid management on outcomes following surgery.

His team is currently recruiting patients as part of an NIHR funded trial into hip fracture outcome. He is an invited researcher for the forthcoming Optimise trial into outcome following major GI surgery. Further work is planned regarding the accuracy of preload responsiveness indicators in different clinical groups.

2) Modelling the response of cerebral blood flow to physiological and pathological changes.

His team is developing a computational model to investigate, and predict blood flow changes associated with surgery and injury.

3) The impact of peri-operative management on outcome following hip fracture.

As well as a current study on the effects of intra-oeprative fluid management on hip fracture outcome, Dr Moppett is colloborating with colleagues from orthopaedics, anaesthesia and orthogeriatrics on future studies aiming to optimise quantitative and qualitative outcome for this high risk group.

4) Sugammadex and anaesthesia

As well as being a key UK researcher in the Phase II and III trials of sugammadex, Dr Moppett is underataking Phase IV studies as well as outcome / efficiency modelling studies with this novel drug.
