Current Research

Dr Hurley is supported by the Wellcome Trust to undertake research focusing upon lung infection in children with cystic fibrosis. He is undertaking laboratory studies investigating ways in which these difficult infections may be overcome. This includes investigating ways in which it may be possible to increase the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics to which they may have become resistant. This work has relevance not only to those with CF, but also others who have infections with antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Dr Hurley has previously undertaken systematic reviews with the Cochrane Collaboration and so is interested in examining the publication of clinical studies and use of evidence of clinical trials. He is also interested in the dissemination of clinical trial results to wider audiences and public engagement in science.
